"Hey! What happened at the VMAs?!"

Last night, MTV hosted the 27th edition of the Video Music Awards. Here's a QUICK run down of what you missed.

Lady Gaga opens as alter-ego,Jo Calderone, to perform "You and I" with special guest Brian Mays, from Queen.

Britney Spears, in a rare VMA showing, wins Pop with "Till The World Ends"
Foo Fighters Win Rock with "Walk"
Kanye and Jay Z spit fire in their performance. A "Watch the Throne" promoting performance.
Hip hop goes to female artist, Nicki Minaj, for "Super Bass"
Best Collaboration goes to Katy Perry/Kanye West for "E.T."
Pitbull performs "Give me everything". Pretty radio standard. Club chicas galore.
Adele performs. Moving, moving, moving. What talent.
Beiber wins Male. Thanks both God and Jesus.
Chris Brown does some strange collaboration with flying.
Britney gets MJ Video Vanguard award from Man Gaga.
Beyonce performs a refreshing track in a modest suit. Pregnant!
New artist. Tyler the Creator.
Bruno Mars performs an Amy Winehouse tribute.
Young the Giant performs. Indie Indie Indie.
Lady Gaga takes Female and Best Message awards for "Born This Way"
Best Video went to Katy Perry for "Firework"

Overall, the 2011 VMAs were mostly successful. All of the performances were unique, entertaining and represented where the music industry is headed.
The “live” aspect left me wanting more, it felt less than great on a producing standpoint. Sloppy transitions, awkward celebrity interaction, strange camera decisions, bad bits. Come on MTV, this isn’t your first rodeo.
In between acts and presentations, Jessie J and her ensemble did their stuff, covering Top 40 tracks of today and yesteryear. Honestly, the awards were granted to the correct artists, which were decided by voters worldwide. So of course, Justin Beiber won his category.
But, it seems as if a problem arises with the VMA format. If MTV, Music Television, is to host the Video Music Awards, since when has the main channel broadcasted and promoted music? Yet ratings came back higher than expected. This could open the door for VEVO, which holds the most record labels today, to stream their own award show.
