This 30-date tour is the debut headlining attempt by the band, touring with O'Brother and Kay-Kay and His Weathered Underground. The tour, again, is to promote the bands most recent release, The Color Spectrum. The EP's 36 tracks inspiration stems from the moods and sounds related to the color spectrum, covering Black, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet and White. The Dear Hunter is known for it's mixed bag of sound ranging from blues, gospel, jazz, metal and cabaret, fitting The Color Spectrum appropriately.
Fans were treated from Atlanta's O' Brother, which can be described as a post-punk astro-rock, with their roaring vocals, flaming guitar riffs and heavy drums. The emotional performance was a precursor for what The Dear Hunter had in store.
Seattle's Kay-Kay and His Weathered Underground took the stage and noted how far away from home they were but that didn't stop the 7-piece ensemble from entertaining. Their differing sound can be described as post-apocalyptic island rock incorporating instruments including the violin and tuba to the normal repertoire.
The Dear Hunter took the stage and opened with their first track from Black entitled 'Never Forgive Never Forget'. Dear Hunter's Frontman, Casey Crescenzo's haunting and poetic vocals, alongside with equally anthem-esque melodies, mesmerized the crowd into a wooing sing along. The headlining act varied from intense instrumentals to moments of tenderness to twilight piano to dreamy guitar picking.
Afterwards, Crescenzo was immediately back at the bar chatting with fans over their appreciation for his music. Nearly 150 gathered for this intimate show, leaving only elbow room at The Social. The tour wraps up August 27th in Pomona, CA.
