result of a collapse of the stage’s overhanging metal works. The incident
occurred just as fans were arriving to the show, around 4 PM.

The Concert Experience 2012
After plugging away at my Master’s studies at Full Sail
University, I view live music events slightly differently than before, perhaps
a little more analytically. For instance, I look at the show’s demographic,
ticket prices, layout and overall experience. This past week I had the chance
to see two very different shows, back to back. Two Door Cinema Club performed
at The Beacham/Social on Monday and Bon Iver performed at Hard Rock: CityWalk on Tuesday.

Coran Capshaw follow-up
If I was ever to embark on an entrepreneurial venture, I
would want to reflect the work of Coran Capshaw. Throughout the program, I’ve
learned how Capshaw has had a hand in many of the largely successful
large-scale music festivals in the US. How does he do it? We can learn from his
success and try to emulate his practices in our own business.

The Capshaw Model
Coran Capshaw, the brains behind Red Light Management, Starr
Hill Presents, MusicToday and Bonnaroo, single handedly changed the
way fans discover events, buy tickets and experience live music. This new found link
between fans and artists boosted overall event awareness. "That
direct interaction is unique," says Capshaw. "It's a bonding
experience." The proof lies when in 2002,
Capshaw, through MusicToday, sold out Bonnaroo in eleven days without
mainstream marketing.

The consumer qualm with TicketMaster.
In the realm of live event management, one of the necessary steps taken is to create and distribute tickets for each unique event. These tickets provide proof of purchase and admittance to the event. The tickets can be distributed at the venue box office, online or by phone. Venue and promotion companies can also hire third party companies to sell and distribute their tickets. In some cases, the business comes to them.

Public Performance License: Stern but fair
I had the opportunity to listen to a variety of podcasts relevant to the music and entertainment industries. The podcast I found most relevant to live events was from Gordon P. Firemark, entertainment attorney residing in California. He represents artists, producers and directors in matters pertaining to their projects. The podcast is entitled Entertainment Law Update.

EMI comes to Full Sail University
EMI representatives Bridget Unger & Joya Nemley came to Full Sail University to share insight on their experiences in the music industry and music publishing industry. Personally, I got the most out of Bridget's lecture on music licensing. Moreover, any music that you hear in the background of any media has to be licensed in order for proper usage to avoid copyright infringement.
